Default Fuel Tap Question

Hi I am new to the forum, i just got a 1987 CBR1000F that the previous owner tried to turn into a street fighter. As part of the process he has badly painted the bike with a black rattle can. As a consequence I have no idea what position the fuel tap should be in. Can someone let me know what position on, reserve and prime are? At the moment the tap is pointing straight up.

welcome matey, answer to your question is up is on down is reserve and pointing towards the back is off. I had exactley the same problem when I bought mine. The previous muppet black canned mine but did'nt mask anything up, lights mirrors clocks screen the bloody lot. Took me five hours with cutting compound to sort the over spray. Bless the bloody idiots in this world. Good luck with it and have fun.....

Ride around long enough. you'll figure it out. Anyhow, I have a 95 so I'm not sure it's the same, but I think if the tap is horizontal, it's off. Shop manuals can be found here- http://cid-f661f6844a8cd45e.skydrive...e.aspx/.Public Maybe they'll help.

Thats awesome, thanks for the prompt response. I can see long hours ahead getting overspray of the engine etc. Most annoying thing was that he cut fairing bracket up to fit weird looking headlight. Slowly getting the parts that I need.

There is no prime position, it appears to rely on the fuel pump for that. Have fun.

Put up a list of parts you need, and we'll see who has what, out in the shed..........

Enjoy your new gummint mate. You'll all be on solar powered sandals by this time next year.
