My best has been 32 mpg, I do have 125 mains, and that could be part of the prob for me. Plus I have a spirited riding style.

 

I have never checked my mileage until last week. I filled up, in two days ran 202 miles and used 4.2 gals, 48 mpg. It was in town but with some 55, some and some 80, stop and and go. I was not making any attempt to improve mileage, I just rode as I normally do, some cruise, some playing.

We just got 50 mpg on a 78 mi leg of our northern trip. It was an easy day. The leg of the trip from New Brunswick to the states we ran hard and fueled up more often. If you want to go fast it takes energy.

Normal for me is 48 but I have rocketed form fuel stop to fuel stop at 28 mpg before.

The back tire goes away as fuel is consumed also.

One thing I would like to mention is that the speedometer error can make a substantial difference if not accounted for. I was surprised to find out that my speedometer error is 7% with the stock sprocket set up. That changed my mpg from 45 indicated to 42 actual on my last fill up.

 

When my '93 was new I got low 40's for mileage. After I put the SS2R exhaust on and screwed with the mixture screws and dropped to high 30's. I also added a K&N drop-in and V&H PowerPac to control ignition. From 2000 to 2005 the bike sat in the garage alot. The carbs got gunked up.
When I put her back on the road in '05 I replaced the slow jets and reset the mixture screws to the stock setting. For the last 2 1/2 yrs. I've been adding 1 oz. (30ml) of pure acetone to the gas with each fillup. I think the slow speed circuit in the carbs are clean now because lately I'm getting 44-45+ mpg and I'm riding like I stole it. On the interstate coming to work the traffic is a steady 80mph, confirmed in my car. On the secondary roads posted @45mph I'm running an indicated 55.
I see that others are also getting good mileage. I think the main thing is to keep the carbs clean and tuned (irridium plugs).

I don't think I am getting more than 29-30 it looks like but that included some 6 grand and slightly higher hwy riding.I'll recalc on my next tankful. It has a K&N jet kit in it, maybe I need some mixture adjustments.
