Well - lol - what a lucky bike

I'd add a +1 to the SeaFoam "Spray" version - that stuff rocks for cleaning

It deffinately helped my '97 Maxima. Went from 22mpg to 25-26mpg after the injectors were cleaned.
Thanks Bassman. Can't argue with a 46 year test, you were riding before I was born!! Are you saying that you have successfully used Lucas injector cleaner in your cbr1000f which is a carb bike. I have a friend Stateside just now who is going to try and bring some seafoam back for me as that seems to be the most popular on the forum. Hopefully he can get it for 10 bucks in Walmart.

Sean,
Yes, The Lucas cleaner keeps the CBR running like new. My MPG's are up to 44-45 on the 1000F from 40-41. Smooth idle and quick starts. I use about 1 oz. every fillup. Yesterday I crammed 4.05 gallons into the tank with 183 miles on the trip meter.
My commute is 1/3 back roads,1/3 secondary highway(45-55mph) and 1/3 interstate(75-80mph)

Thanks again. Just to be sure this is the product. It does say injector cleaner on it. But its main title is 'Upper Cylinder Lubricant'

That's it. The little 5 oz. bottle sells for $7 US at PepBoys. I buy the 32oz. size for $11US, in the same store.
I see that this product is very expensive in the UK, but the larger size is a better deal. Your prices are about twice the price I pay.

15% acetone
50% kerosene
35% isopropyl alchohol

That's the basic formula that all carb/injector cleaners use.

Acetone cleans the debris, kerosene is the fuel stabilizer, isopropyl alchohol removes the water.

You can make it yourself for about $10/ gallon

Its been my experience that any carb cleaner is a gimmick at best. A decent carb cleaning for me takes a couple hours with carb cleaner. If I have a weekend, I will break the entire bank and disassemble the carbs and remove all rubber, then boil the carbs in pine-sol for 30 min each. Wash with water and dry with compressed air. I have found that nothing beats this method. Removing the rubber is important otherwise it will turn into mush.

I also run a cap full of two-stroke oil through each tank, this helps to keep the floats from sticking, ever heard a two-stroke with sticky floats?

Jlaz or Hawkind, any chance of a step by step on how to best overhaul the carbs for the uninitiated and what to get beforehand?
