fork spring length??
Hi,
Does any one know what length the fork springs should be?[&:]
I`m changing my fork oil, seals etc and thought I`d better check them(70.000 miles)!
Any reccomendations on aftermarket springs, oil weight etc?
Thanks.

S, check those fork slider bushings too, i got in to a nasty slapper at 105, on my GS1100 'cause of them. I was look'n at the stem bearings, and found really loose fork sliders. did'm myself, quite a learning experiance, shimming, peening, repeening, now they go swoosh, aaaawe, thats'a nice!!!!!!!!
I'm guese'n those spings, are sacked too. new brake pad pins, caliper seals, there apart already????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love it when "dad" says... what year?, he's a treasure trove of the good stuff!!!!!!! I think he did a posting on setting up spring preload and spacers, forks ect., it was great. good luck!!!!!!!!! clean and free, only smoke'n harleys !!!!!!! Ripp'n

Honda specs. 16.53" with a service limit at 16.2". They are progressive wound, also. Hope that helps.
If you go to Racetech you can find their recommended spring for these bikes. It'll likely be a 1.0kg for the street but will vary with rider weight. I think the 1.0 is the stiffest they make that will fit these.
I have a '90 and I changed two things on it. I made a longer spacer to raise the front static sag from 2 1/8" to 1 3/8" and raised the fork oil level from the factory recommended 6 7/8" to 4 13/16". That was to help with bottoming on hard braking. Other than that, mine's still stock and was OK. I may change to the 1.0's next winter as they should be better. Also, they can be cut to increase their stiffness but that's something I will do with aftermarkets, if at all. It's easier to work with linear springs when doing that. Got to go now, good luck.
