Default Fork seal problem!

I'm trying to replace the fork seals on my 1000f 1987 but can't get the allen cap screw out of the bottom of the slider even with a impact-driver!!!!
Short of drilling it out, does anyone have a suggestion?
Cheers,
Robbie

Are you clamping the fork down before trying the impact on it?
I would think the impact would get it out, but if the fork is allowed to move, it would be much much harder to break it free.
Also, if you have some penetrating lube, I'd try that, too.

Yep, in a vice with wooden jaws, have used penetrating lube as well and the hex is rounding out of the bolt. I bought and brand new good quality allen key this morning to do the job.

They wouldn't come undone and rounded out the hex heads, so drilled the heads off!!!!
Previous owner had done them up very tight. The new seals are in and the forks are back on the bike. What an exercise and had to easy-out one of the lower bolt holding the left disc caliper on. Lots of swearing.
The bike has not been looked after and been sitting outside for years. It is slowly getting better with the work I'm doing and nearly ready to get it registered and on the road.

Man, I know how that stuff goes sometimes.... glad you got it out.

I went to fix a blower at work the other day and the first bolt I tried to loosen from the case just snapped.
I went to the next one and I sheared that one off, too. LOL..
(6 in all... )
I threw the whole thing in the trash and bought a shiny new blower for $2100.
The lesson learned was to use anti-seize.... and that it's much easier to spend other people's money.

Glad to hear you're making some progress, man...

All back together now, will take her for a short run this arvo. Greased all the bolt and screws not like the last owner!!!! Should be easier to get apart next time.
Cheers,
Robbie

There's a bikeshop in NZ that I've used from time to time - called
