Default Farewell... for now

Afraid I have to say goodbye, at least for the time being. A shame as I have always found this forum entertaining and helpful. I bought my CBR through this forum too.

Reason? Last Wednesday, daily commute into London, 20mph, no traffic coming the other way, driver decides to shoot across to the lay-by on the other side of the road (I presume). As I was right alongside him at the time I could do nothing but crash to the ground! He admitted it was his fault, even said that to a couple of police officers who were not far behind when it happened. Thankfully only aches and pains, the body armour did its job.

After we fell, there was quite a sizeable pool of warm oil on the road. Where would that have come from - something cracked? Apart from that there was little damage, just the fairing protectors really. But I'm worried about the oil spill, even though the engine ran for ages after that, the oil stopped dripping out and the warning light stayed off.

Of course as the bike is so old (1991) she'll probably be written off, not worth the labour cost etc.

I'm insured with Swinton. By the following morning they'd arranged for my bike to be taken away and replaced with a hire bike until the claim is settled or my bike is repaired. I'd asked for a 750 (for a change) but ended up with a Bandit 650. Starts first time, fuel injected, quiet, no CCT rattle, pretty nippy. But no fairing or heated grips, a bit chilly these days. They did say if I was unhappy I could change it to something up to the capacity of my CBR - I believe they have CBF1000s on their fleet, might give it a go.

Of course the injury solicitors are on my case...

Anyway, thanks for all the help; you never know, I might be back with my old bike or might buy another CBR1K if she doesn't survive.

Ride safe!

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. Sounds like it's gonna be one of the better
outcomes, if it had to happen at all. ;-)

Keep the faith, hope you get some new brag-rights/ride soon.

Hang in there, and good luck with the bike situation. I have a Yamaha FZ1; the first generation with carbs. You may want to have a look at those when youre shopping

Don't be concerned about the puddle of oil - mine did it too and the engine is fine.
Maybe you can buy the bike for salvage prices and fix her up.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Glad your OK, and hope you get the old bike up and running. I have 3 bikes and the 1kF is the keeper of the bunch, can't beat the protection form the elements.

You're ok mate, that's all that matters!

The insurer sounds pretty good too. That's pretty good service to get you on a bike the next day and offer a choice of bikes if you don't like the first one.

Sounds like your gear did it's job, glad you're OK.

Personally I'd buy the bike back from the insurance company.

Sorry to hear you went down but the great news is that you are OK. Good luck with whatever the insurance company works out for you. Get those aches & pains healed up soon.
