Default F1 vs f2

I have searched but have found minor differences between the gen 1 cbr1000f "hurricane" and the gen 2 cbr1000f... From people who have rode these two beautiful bikes what is the positive and negative of each? I know that the 90+ bikes aren't "real" hurricanes but what changed that other than decals?

Yep, sprock got many of them. Different tail, fuel pump (87/88 are the only ones that had 'em), gauges, I believe the pegs, headlight, and a bunch of other little things.

But honestly... they are all essentially the "same" bike. The motors are very similar. All bike models go through similar changes, tho.

On the name....Honda just dropped the "Hurricane". The old ones are still CBR1000Fs. (I think it was all about sales. You wanna name a bike after a natural disaster that kills thousands?)

Hell... it all depends on who you ask. (or where you live)

Is this a hurricane?
Says so on the manual.

Resisting my usual urges to **** stir, I'd have to agree. If a good mark 1 or 2 had presented itself to me when I went shopping I'd have been happy with either instead of the mark 3 I ended up with (very pretty the mark 3, by the way ).

If I was shopping again I'd probably avoid a really early model with a fuel pump, simply because it's one more thing to go wrong and leave you stranded. I prefer the wider back wheel on later models too.

Thanks guys and no disrespect intended... I'm parting out my 87 right now( see thread on it!!!) and have located a 1990 1000f near by that's only about $1600. Just looking to compare the two. I really had my heart set on an 87 but really just want to feel the power and comfort of the cane!!!

The motor and carbs are a little different but can be used as spares for the newer bike, so unless you need to sell them they make great spares. Also 87/88 bikes had a few more go fast parts avail for the engine as they were considered a sport bike in their day and more of a sport touring in the later models. I have to agree with Dave the 3 gen are the best looking but the 2nd had the most improvements from the previous, and really other than Linked brakes (love or hate) and carbs (smaller) the bodywork was the biggest upgrade from 2nd to 3rd. No other real changes or upgrades other than those. The only upgrade I would do on a 2nd gen is put a 3rd gen tail on it, as I hate the cylon tailight. Its pretty much a bolt on swap too, biggest pain is matching it colour wise.
Just my 3 cents.

Couldn't agree more.

Good point on the tail ..... other benefit of the mark 2 over the later mark 3
is unlinked brakes ...........because linked brakes imo ........absolutely suck
and this winter with coaching from TimBucTwo I'm going to de-link my 1993
like he has done with his 1994
