Default Engine VIN Location

I have a small race car with a CBR 1000 F engine.

Having recently bought the Haynes manual to find out where the VIN is I am no further forward.

Can someone please explain in detail or show me a picture of where it is. I have trawled the net but foud nothing, other than this site which should be a good help.

Need to confirm the year so I can get the correct wiring loom.

Many Thanks, Alan

Look at the front of the engine - under the exhaust ports - behind the downpipes.

There is a flat where the crankcase joins the block - the engine serial number is stamped in to the flat

Thats the correct place - There is a chunk of crank case missing on your engine - the number should be on it.

Are there any numbers on the carbs ?

Uh huh .......... seems someone "knocked it off" the engine serial that is !

Have an instinct that it's an 87 / 88 motor

Thanks for the quick replies, I have spent three days on and off looking for that dam VIN :-)

Is there any other way to know if its a 87/88 motor or not.
What should I be looking for on the carbs.

I must be mad thinking I can rebuild this engine and get it running.

The dirt and corrosion would back that instinct up Mark

If you post up some general pictures of the engine from various angles we can date it for you
