Default Engine rebuild

Anyone had a full engine rebuild done? Is it still possible to have one done at a Honda dealership?

Personally, I think you have to give not only your right nut but your first born as well.

I'd be looking for a good second hand motor, or doing the rebuild myself.

Just my 2 cents.

Cheers, SB

Aye, thought that might be the case. A friend of mine was trying to convince me that it would work out about the same for a rebuild as a second hand engine. Would have thought labour alone stripping then rebuilding would be at least £500.

Definitely not worth it to have it done by a dealer - by a long shot. As SB said, find a used one on ebay, CL, or through a bike junk yard - or rebuild it yourself.

Don't rebuild it yourself unless you're confident you can do it. Having said that, there is nothing special about bike motors verses other motors. I'd say on the whole, they're easier than car motors or other motors.

Not to mention remove and replace the engine and OEM parts at Honda prices.

Cheers, SB

No way it'd only be 500 on labor, in the UK. From a HONDA dealer - I'd say you'd be looking about 10 + hours. And, I doubt you'd get a standard labor rate since only the highest mechanics in the shop can do a motor rebuild.

Second hand engines come up all the time, anything from £150 to £300, depending on mileage. I'd be looking to pay £200 for a good running engine with about 30'000 miles on it.

I picked up a MK3 engine for £70, but I don't know what condition it's in, but it's worth that to me in spares.

Why? Why do you need a rebuild?

The engine feels slack and tired, it can't even keep up with my mates Sportster.
