I was told by the shop to not ever bother with it, so I left mine alone. I've just had my cases apart & decided to check the adjustment upon re assembly. I'm glad I did as it was out a long way. I think I'll check it more often. Thanks for the timely post!

General advice it to play with the balancer only when splitting the cases or rebuilding the engine. However with miles it can drop out of adjustment and need fiddling with. Mine got to the point that a few miles at highway speeds resulted in numb hands. A few minutes adjusting the balancer took care of that. Adjustment shouldn't be needed on a regular basis though.

Asfar as I remember, the Honda manual is saying you should adjust the balancer together with the big service

Funny how the "old" posts get a bump! I adjusted my balancer for I think the first time in my Cane's life. I lost count after 20 revolutions....The vibration in the bars has gone and I will add this to my maintenance schedule. Thanks to all!

Hey boink, sounds like you adjusted your balancer with the engine off. I tried that and the thing just kept spinning around with no resistance. I inquired on the forum here about it and was instructed to try adjusting it with the engine running. With the engine on I only had to turn the shaft a little and could hear the result. Just turn it counter clockwise until it starts to whine and then back it off a little until the whine stops. Sweet!

Hey Tallenuf,

Yep, I tried both. I did not reach a "stop end" although I could hear the motor "rattle" then go quiet. No "whine" to speak of. Maybe keep turning?????

Sounds to me you've got it perfect, no rattle and no whine!

Tallenuf, I'm not so confident...I'm tuning carbs tomorrow and I'll have another go before I tune - so the engine is cold. I'll post back results....
