Downunder Resurection - US Import 1987 CBR1000F
#31
Finally got to be working on the USA import Hurricane - toiled all day in 40 degree (C) heat with Knackie - while we were meant to be tidying the shed.
After the poor old girl had been sitting for 18 months on the motorcycle hoist, we finally fitted the carbies (had to re-soften the carb boots), connected everything up, rebuilt the fuel pump, pulled no 2 carb to pieces to see why the float/needle/seat were glued open, checked voltages, coolant, oil levels and found ALL the little pieces that were missing, put a fully charged battery in her and...........................
SHE LIVES!!
First time it has been started in 15 years and after a few coughs and bangs, she purrs like a kitten.
Photos and perhaps video a little later after a swim in the Mighty Murray River.
Cheers, SB

Well done mate, that had been such a protracted labour I had completely forgotten about it (you know me; mind of a goldfish, 30 seconds and it's completely gone.
'Holy ****, where did that sunken pirate boat and castle come from???' )
With those gorgeous original black chrome pipes, try some super fine steel wool dipped in turps. Don't know how it works but it does.

well done Seb, top looking bike!
Pretty sure all US bikes have that clearance light thing with the indicators & pretty sure you need to get rid of it here.
Did some checking for ya re red plates ( SA is the only state that historic reg finishes 31/12/1978) which means in your lifetime you still wont get a cbr on red plates unless they change legislation. vic is 25 yrs from current year ie; my 89 is going red plate this year, NSW & QLD is 30yrs /1984 bikes applicable.
you need to get an address south / east of the border ?

Thanks Chimp,
And thanks for checking the red plate regs. Yep Good old SA, when crossing the border please wind your watch back to 1897
The state is broke and looking to 'get' funding by ANY means possible.
I have a set of Australian indicators I bought in a box of Mark 1 spares so I'll look into that shortly.
Cheers, SB
