Finally got my hands on a set of stainless steel downpipes for the old girl. Bargain at £80

Only catches are - they are for a '91 - so hope they fit
Getting the old ones off

Lots of WD on the studs and nuts for the next couple of weeks before I tackle the removal.

Hi,

Yes did a deal with a seller. He had them listed for 30 days and they hadn't sold so I offered him a price. We met at £80 so I'm happy.

First dose of WD40 applied on to nuts this morning. Off to go and heat them up now with a few miles then re-apply WD when hot. Will keep doing this until next weekend. Thats my planned "exhaust exchange" weekend and hopefully no problems.
Will try to take camera for photos.

Don't snap them studs

Yes, do I recall you had a 'mare with yours?

Started soaking them with WD every night ready for the weekend. Radiator off tomorrow, soak of WD and a Twitch with the socket. Will be repeating this until E-day - Saturday.

 

 

Well I had planned to do a "how to" but think it would of ended up as a 'how not to'.

Finally took the bravery pills and did the did. Lessons to be learnt!

soak the studs for days and days in WD and penetrating fluid
buy at least 2 studs and nuts BEFORE you start
get a torque wrench
Buy coolant additive
You will loose your patience.

The stainless are much better than the stock mild steel headers and the sound/breathing is improved.
