Hey:

I will I just ordered one while on sale, my stock Honda R/R still works and I'll just put the Honda one in the backpack and keep it as a spare if needed, Ill also try an Electrosport and compare to my Electrex with the stock working Honda R/R as a spare for all 4 bikes. As I plan on keeping all 4 bikes for a very long time this should give some simple comparisons. Also this will be a long term comparison test I guess for the different types, brands and price points to see if they are really worth the difference.

If I werent still crying from spending $120 for a tiny little black box, I would buy a $35 unit to keep for an emergency. LOL

Hey:

If I was sure on them, I would be buying 2 of these, 1 to put in to run with, 1 for a spare, and still be ahead money wise, against the Electrosport I just ordered. we shall see.

The goal is for the replacement to be sufficently engineered to not need further replacement. That's why I went with the Electrosport. I don't anticipate ever re-visiting this particular issue for the life of the bike. You don't hear about constant repair/replacement on other make/models of motorcycle for R/R's. Honda just dropped the ball on this one. That's my theory, anyway. ;-)

Big +1. I'd love to hear about this. Also like to see the quality/appearance of it for real.

If you are really worried about it you can put a volt meter on the bike, after the R/R dies it will stop giving you 14v and then you will have a few hours on battery to ride home before you have to start pushing..

I bought a $15 R/R for a blackbird from ebay when my unit died and I was just going to rewire the bike to fit, cause I'm ghetto like that, but then never got around to installing it as I got impatient while waiting for the postage and built my own from parts from radio shack (aka Jaycar in Aus).

The ebay unit I have looks the goods, very solid and well made on the outside. R/R's don't actually do that much, but they generate a lot of heat, as long as they don't get too warm then they should last forever.

I have a question along this same line.
At night my headlight dims at idle, brand new battery, 15v at 5000 rpm.
I don't remember it being this way last year. Normal? Cause for concern?
