Default Do K&N Filters make much difference?

Was thinking of buying one just to squeeze that extra bit of power out of my bike. Just wondering as on some forums people have made unbelieveable claims that their bikes have been given an extra 7bhp from installing one, do they make a noticable difference? My current bike has 12,000k on its clock and is not due for a new one but I was justpondering if its worth it..

Thanks

So here's the thing. Putting in a K&N filter allows the engine to take in more air, but this also changes the air/fuel ratio, and since a bike doesn't have a O2 sensor to monitor air/fuel ratio, it cannot add fuel to compensate. Any HP gain you make will probably not be super noticeable. If you want more HP, you really need to put in the K&N filter, replace exhaust with 4-1 setup, and re-jet the carburetors. That way, the engine is breathing a lot easier, and you are compensating for the extra air by adding more fuel.

7 hp by the K/N filter only is not possible, but the bike should run slightly better with a K/N filter if the carb needles are raised by a M3 bracket. The bike is over-jetted stock, so you dont need to change any jets.

Are you using 4-1 or 4-2-1? Just wondering. Does anyone know which is better? I only know the difference because I read a few articles on exaust. Any input would be great!! Are the both better that the dual setup, or just lighter?

Thanks,

The 4-2-1 sýstemsdelivers better power and torque than the Hurricanestock system, manily because the stock down pipes have a very restrictive T-crossing that divide the flow to L/H muffler. In case the downpipes, or rather the connections to dual mufflers was more correct, the dual systemshould flow even better than a single muffler. Thats what the -07 sportbike models have begin to use, to maintain and increase power and a lower sound level.

I used a 4-2-1 (the Cane is sold), 4-2-1 provides better midrange than 4-1and this is how all sportbike systems has been done for many years, e.g. GSX R, R1's etc.

I use a 4-2-1 system on the recent Blackbird. It delivers 156 rwhp (rear wheel, 175-180 on the crank))compared to stock 135 rwhp. There are other mods to on this bike but the greatest singlestep was taken by the new system.

Ah cheers, I run a aftermarket (Predator) 4-2. Knocks 4kg off the weight and increased power by 5bhp. But 4-1 is a lot better, but...Suzukis new GSXR-1000 is a 4-2 so maybe not that much better...

Hey R1000. Got a question. what did you mean when you said stock jetting and "m3 bracket"? Are you refering to washer size/thickness , perhaps? In the US these bikes were way way leaned out to make EPA rules. I put in Stage 1 and a 4-2-1 Yoshi . Made a big difference from stock.

Yes I mean that the main jets can be leftstock, #122in Europe, and that a thinflat washer for 3 mm metric screwsis placedunder the needle top hat to raise it.
