Default difficult starting for years

hi guys
a follow up on the last post to my difficult starting post
i went to the local honda guy who has known me and the bike on and off for years
in fact it was they that did the last intervention 4 yrs ago on the engine to change the stupid damper ( engine split) and its run only a little since
so the valves were set by them
he mentioned that the rocker gaps might be out of whack
i did check them and sure enought they had set several slightly too tight
i re set each one just a tad more open than spec and lo and behold it starts much better and idles more steady and pulls better at low revs
im next going to re set the air screws to see if i can get a less lumpy idle
moral of the story
it you want it done right do it yourself

Syncing the carbs will help smooth it out too also pop an extra washer on each carb needle to deal with the mid range stumble, best mod for under a buck !

well guys as an update i've done some 100s of miles and its almost spot on
just going to re check the idle balance
moral of the story
if you have:
difficult starting
lumpy idle
cutting out at idle
poor acceeration and weak power
check the tappet clearances as they have closed up...or as in my case been badly set
by the mechanic
cheers
