Default Differences old and new?

This Saturday I am selling my Honda CBR 1000 F 1987 and buying a Honda CBR 1000 F DCBS 1993.

What kind of differences can I expect?

The brakes are different due to the DCBS. When braking the bike squats instead of just dipping its front.
Honda moved the the weight of the bike closer to the center of the bike in 1993, making the bike more easy to tip toe, so you should experience a bike that is easyer on the side. The '93 model is heavyer than the earlyer models, but power beeing the same. So the power ti weight ratio is a bit lower, but only by a fraction.
I thing you are getting a more smooth running bike, and in my eyes, a much better looking design!

Also better tires and better front forks. From '90 up they're cartridge front forks instead of damper rods.

Thanks for your views.

Today I sold the old and bought the "new" one.

Yep, Kerunk, you're right, it's been repainted - according to the UK registration certificate it was originally "white".

I´m sorry to say this Bob, but that´s not a -93. Placement of the front turn indicators and the front fender tells us it´s a -89 up to -92. Main difference is the lack of DCBS-brakes in those years. And before someone from the States says "no, that is wrong, they looked that way from -90 to -92", Honda sold the old "first" CBR 1000 as up to year -89 in the States, and the rest of the world got the new "look" as year -89 while USA had to wait until -90.

CosmoBob, how much did you pay for it, was it already imported and registred in Sweden or did you do that yourself?

Mikekop, it is very interesting to hear of your observations. Not that they make me merrier, but I guess I'm getting wiser.

I have been wondering about the fairing, and other details that indicates it's _not_ a '93-model. But, the frame VIN is SC242401460, which according to Haynes Service and Repair manual is UK model 1993.

If it isn't a model 93 I certainly regret my buying it. The bike is not in very good shape as it is, and there's a few things that needs to be fixed before I even try to get it registrered. I guess it was the price that got the best of me... I paid SEK 17 000 ($2400), which is a bargain in Sweden where a lot of these bikes seem to sell at twice the price.

It was imported by a dane who lives in Sweden and he said he didn't have the time to fix it and get it registered.

I can understand your lack of happiness if you feel you´ve been fooled, but I, for what it´s worth, think you got it for a good price. I´m not sure of UK system, but I know that Germany grades year models by the year it first got registrated so one can get fooled by that. The DCBS system is very easy to determine if it´s there or not: look for a small piston located on the left front fork, connected to the left front brake caliper (vänstra bromsoket) by some linkage.
At least, since you did´nt pay that very much for it, you still can spend some money on it and get it running and lookin´better and still have some money left up to those who ask 30000 Sek and more for their -89 to -92...

Thanks Mikekop for your consoling words: I hope you're right about the bike being a good buy, despite it being a model 92.

I don't think anyone has fooled me, but perhaps myself. Actually, I am rather fond of the bike!
