Ok, when the fuel filter was almost one hundred percent clogged on my 99 f4 it restricted the fuel flow to my carbs, especially at higher rpms it was so bad that when I would get to 7k-9k rpm it would start to hesitate and would not pull hard as usual. I thought it was the clutch at first before I performed the diagnostic test on the clutch. That's why I said check clutch first, then check for restricted fuel flow. If that makes sense.

Clutch slip= RPM/TACH climb-swing up with no corresponding increase in speed/acceleration.

Fuel Starved may start with a slight RPM increase(happens when running leaner)but is quickly followed by flat engine/bike speed with missing/stumbling engine power.

Likewise for loss of strong spark or choked intake. Got to have fuel/air/spark in the right ratio and timing to make her go. I'd have to go with worn clutch plates for sure on this description. Look for evidence of overheated metal plates when you get in there.

I was leaning toward this, but was holding out hope for an adjustment- which I've found that hydraulic clutches don't have, at least on our bikes. Oh well, from what I've read it's a short job and the springs/clutch pack/plates aren't unaffordable. Any manufacturer recommendations besides OEM?

I've used Barnett clutch plate in the past with good results.

Super easy job, FAR easier than I expected. What I didn't count on however was the ineptitude of the previous owner, who neglected to mention that he broke off two bolt heads in the clutch basket when he replaced the clutch last. Store opens in 30 minutes, I'll be buying an extractor and 5 new bolts.

Never underestimate the shadiness of craigslist sellers.

Now you know a torque wrench is a great idea for those new bolts- something Malbo

I own a very nice one, thank goodness. Finished up those, fired her up, and WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. I ended up with the EBC SRK4 full kit, and it feels phenomenal. Clutch pull feels silky smooth, and this bike comes alive over 7k rpm!

If anyone in the Seattle/Tacoma area needs a hand with this job, lemme know. It's super easy, but I'd be happy to lend an eye/hand.
