Hi guys! Where do I drain the coolant from? I looked at the service manual, but it doesn't show any drain plug that usually cars' motor has. No drain plug for CBRs? How do you flush the cooling system?

I just flushed my system a couple of weeks ago. Mine is a 94, so it may be different, but there is a drain plug at the bottom of the water pump on the lower left side of the engine. The plug looks similar to the mounting screws for the pump, but located slightly inward of the outside edges of the pump. Withthe radiator capin place, when you remove the plug, fluid barely comes out, but if you take the radiator cap off, it flowsreadily.Hope this helps.

What he said. The drain bolt should have a crush washer on it if that helps.

Hi All,

I'm also doing a little winter maintenance on my 91', should I try purging the system with running water? I don’t think it has been changed for some years! I also have ordered new spark plugs, air filter, oil and oil filter.

I'm starting to disassembly the cam cover to do a cam tensioner repair, I see there's a lot of writing in here about that, mine is giving some bad noise when warm around 2000rpm. I will inspect the CCT and post some pics here of my findings. (In its own thread) I hope to repair the sucker..=)

Well, just wanted to know if any of you guys have purged you're cooling system..?

Just to do a flush you can use normal tap water no worries, as long as you are sure you drained it all afterwards. Regarding your noise... also check the valves clearences, or balance shaft adjustment.
best of luck

Thx Motor_Fan,

I will check valve clearences thats for sure. I don't belive I have a unbalanced shaft, I'm 99.9% sure it's from the cam chain =)

I used running water to flush while motor idles. I do this way for my cars. How soon CT and CTT go bad? My CBR has 15k miles and has that noise. Is that caused by only balancer shaft clearance?
