Up to now I've been using a Motul road bike lube. It's very good but, as I live on a dirt road, it picks up a lot of crud. I've seen an ad for Belray clean lube, or ultra clean, or something like that. It's supposed to be dry (graphite base?) and mess free. Anybody try it or something similar? Thanks.

 

I use PJ1 on my dirtbikes and its real nice for the dirt, but makes a hell of a mess on your chain n sprockets....

 

I use chain wax in the can. Warm the chain, spray it on, let it dry, off you go!
It is much less messy than conventional oil and many other lubes. It sets up and sticks on. I won't be going back to other lubes any time soon.

I was using 90 weight gear oil, but it sure is messy. Just recently started using Chain Wax spray like sir trout.

 

I've been using Dupont's Teflon Multi-use Dry Wax Lube in the blue spray can: http://www.webbikeworld.com/t2/motor...n-chain-saver/.
It dries so fast, I have to mark the chain where I first started spraying.

 

Yep, that's what I was using before, too, bicklebok... just gear oil. What a world of difference between that and a good chain wax!!

Yeah sir trout! Gear oil doesnt smell as bad when its being slung up and burned off by the motor as it does straight out of the bottle!

I always like when it drips off the chain, and you have to avoid the oil spot with your tires for a few days.

I haven't used anything but WD-40 on my o-ring chains (street and race bikes) for at least 15 years. I get excellent chain life, and no mess, ever. My current chain has about 15,000 miles on it and I think I've adjusted it twice in that time. it's o-ring safe, works great, is cheap, and unlike any goopy stuff, it doesn't attract dirt or make a mess.
