Question on what is a decal and what is not. I am looking at a 1990 US Model in White with the red and blue. The red area on the left fairing appears to have some road rash. Is this paint or a decal put over the white? For those of you that own one can you explain what is paint and what is not on your bikes. Classic I believe you have an 89 in this scheme???

Mine is paint with decals for the lettering etc
What normally happens is the parts are spray painted in the white mica base coat and then the red and blue are again sprayed over this. There is also a gold line, this is a decal.(as far as I know)
The decals are put on and the parts are all then clear coated with lacquer to seal in the edges and give it its shine. (this is why you can't feel the edges of the stickers)
A good way to check if the paintwork has been redone or played about with is to gently run your finger nail across an edge where the colours change or where the "stickers" are fitted, if you can feel a step or distinct edge it is not standard.
Hope this helps

thanks for the response fellas. As it turned out the bike I was interested was taken off ebay today. At least I got my question answered for the future if I find another one. So thanks again, my quest for a 1990 continues.
