Default RE: CBR1000F exhaust???

Hello Dave,
The US spec bike is a little more detuned than just the cam. The CBR carburetors are larger, wth a larger airbox. I believe they use the same air filter. The CB exhaust is double walled and the inside pipe chokes down some restricting the exhaust flow. Not counting the headers, the pre-mufflerare alsoheavy and very restrictive. The actual muffer hasmore engineering in it than the space shuttle. The pre-muffler mounted under the bike is kind of a kidney shaped empty can with the inlet being a nozzle pointing at the far cornerinside the can. The exhaust gases just circulate around inside the can and are finally forced out of the exhaust outlet. The last thing I would call any of this is free flowing. There also may be a timing difference as well. The California CB model has different timing slope and spec than the 49 state model.
I got to work on mounting the CBR exhaust today. It was somewhat disappointing as I was hoping everything would just bolt up. Wrong! The header hits the bottom of the trans. I ended up cutting both pipes, turned the Y pipe upside down and moved it back about 1-1/4". This keeps everything high, but the outside down pipes are close to the frame. I'll try to go to the machine shop to finish the pipes Monday. And of course post the results.
I'll post the pictures of before and after mods on the pipes when I get it finished.

Dave ,
Correct, the CB1000 is a five speed. The one I have in the states has about 20k miles and it shifts very clean and crisp. My other CB1000 in the Philippines has about 38k miles on it and doesn't shift as nicely. Often when we've been traveling more than a few hours and it's gotten hot 1st gear has to be tapped into a couple of time to get it right. The PI bikegets ridden a lot harder than the Stateside bike.

Hello All,
I have a header I bought off of eBay sold ascoming off ofa 1988 CBR1000F. I've looked at the parts breakdown and spoke to my dealer. This header has perches for springsto mount a slip-on pipe. The OEM header doesn't use springs.I am hope one of you good folks know what it is.

I have the same header but in stainless.
There is a company in the UK called MTC exhausts.

He built me a tri-oval can and link pipe to suit for £170 GBP.

Where did you get the right side exhaust shield and what did you put on the left side?

HaHa - everyone seems to like my exhaust shields - they are the orijional units fromthe bike, modified by cutting and
filling with fibreglass. Then sprayed. Only cost me about £20 GBP to do.

They fill in the gap nicely

Here is the other side

They look sooooooooo good, Deano ! Finish the bike off beautifully.
The 4/1 systems seem to detract from the looks of the bike - doesn't look "neat and tidy" if you know what I mean. Those covers make all the difference.
I'm sure more of the guys would fit them if there was a "how to".............
