Default CBR 1000F hi temperature

Hi all. Thanks to everyone giving me advise about my battery but I have a question about the temperature when I ride my bike.

The temperature gauge is showing hi even when I am casually riding it. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or if I need to top her up with water/coolant etc.

Cheers
Sam

You should check it as a matter of maintenance.

How far up is the temp needle ? past 3/4 then somethings up

Low coolant and or bad thermo fan switch

As Sprock says, you should check the coolant as part of you routine maintenance schedule. In this case prevention is definitely better than cure.

The temperature gauge should read about half way under normal riding conditions and temperatures.

Where are you located? Fill in the 'User CP', details of where you live in the world will help us to help you!

If coolant level is normal, then let her idle and see if the cooling fan comes on.

While you're doing that, take a look at the radiator, make sure it's not gunked up with a million dead bugs, you need good air-flow.

But if she's getting hot during normal riding I'd suspect coolant level or inefficient cooling system. The latter can be cured by draining, reverse flushing, maybe a rad-clean and re-filling with the correct water/anti corrosion mix.

hi both, i have only had the bike for a couple of days and am just trying to get to grips with where all of the bits and bobs are.

the tempreture gauge is well over high! i will need to read up on how to check the coolant level and how to fill it up etc for general maintenence like you said. i get the feeling that the person who owned it prior to me didnt really maintain it very well!

i live in the midlands in the uk.

Cheers

Default Manual !!

Yo - go onto Amazon ( other bookshops are available ) and order yourself a Haynes, you will avoid overcooking the engine, and it will soon be your new bestest garage friend !!

Had a look at the coolant level and it looks like it is over the upper level line. Surely that means the fluid is not circulating properly or it's blocked? Not sure what to do. Couldn't hear a fan kicking in also. Any ideas?

Probably over heating at low speed or in slow moving traffic because
the fans not working

Left side of the radiator under fairing , sitting on bike, is the temp sender
that activates the fan

With the bike running pull the wire on it and ground it to the frame
if the fan kicks in the sender is bad , if the fan does not kick in the
fan is junk ( or it's wiring) and potentially sender as well maybe.

If the fan tests out good you can also just rig up a manual switch
to ground to turn the fan on manually as needed at low speed

&

Bits & Bobs would indeed put you in the UK

Spamola0,
Are you looking in the radiator or the overflow tank. The Tank has high and low lines. Look in the radiator. The pressure cap is on the right side under a panel.

Thanks all for getting back to me.

I flushed the rad and put new coolant in and that seems hunky dory (you should have seen the nasty crap that came out of that). I tested the fan by grounding it while the engine was running and when the fan kicked in it seemed to slightly lower the temperature, so i think i have got a duff fan switch.

I am gonna contact a couple of brakers and shops tomorrow to sort one out.

Cheers
