Default cam timing

what a cool place to hang out when not riding. i need some info on installing camshafts on 1000fk 89. are the factory markings on the cams and sprockets accurate, or is there a better method for getting them spot on. thanks

You can buy a guage that screws into the spark plug hole and tells you precisely when you are at TDC.

The marks work fine. Unless you want to buy slotted sprockets, a degree wheel and adapters, then a TDC finder. That's totally unecessary in my book unless it's your plan to move the timing with a specific end result/need in mind.

The factory is typically good on their claimed timing using their marks. That's how they assembled it, afterall.

Hello. My name is Krzysztof
bike CBR-1000F SC24
I'm form poland, thats why my english is not the best.

I changed the chain tensioner. I remove timing hole cap, and aligin the marks (like maual said). Then I opened valves cover, and see that my camshafts are NOT set like factory manual said. I mean taht IN and EX marks on cam sprockets, was NOT aligin with the cylinder head upper surface.I was stand left side on motobike, and both lines(left on EX sprocket, and right on IN sprocket) was above cylinder head upper surface(very much-about 1,5-2 centimeters). For me its strange, because this is not in line setting - i mean if I set wrong crankshaft, then one line should be upper, and second should be under.(for example line IN on inlet sprocket, should be under, while line EX on exhaust sprocket should be above). But in my setting both lines are above cyl. head uppper surface.
Camshafts seems like factory. Sprockets are 100% factory - I mean they are NOT adjustable.

I changed the chain tensioner, and set camshafts like manual said- both lines on sprockets IN and EX, are aligin with the cylinder head upper surface.
I start the engine on choke- it was very hard to start it, but at least it start(maby they must dring fuel into carbies) - I reverse it max 2000 RMP - I do not revers it higer, because I'm scary - maby my previous setting of camshafts was ok ? This where IN and EX marks on sprockets, are much above cyl. head upper surface.
I want to said that on this strange setting(marks on sprockets much above cyl head upper surface), bike was driving OK, but on hot have no idle, and quick start hot(fan on radiator starts-but this is maby because sth other wrong)

And my questions to you is - is this engine is colision one ? I mean if I set wrong camshafts, then can be colision on piston/valve ?
Now I have set it like manual said, and reverse it to max 2000 RMP - and NO colision - can I reverse it higher, or in higher rpm, can be colision if cams have wrong settings?
Should I put the cams like before ? or stay it like manual said ?

I know that adjust the camshaft can give power and torque, depends on rmp, but I think if someone before me(previous owner of my bike) do this without adjustable sprockets, was not good tunner.

Please help
