It is all clear to me now. Fascinating. I must research the difference in torgue and bhp specs between Ducati 1098r and Hayabusa.
I said I wouldn't do it, but here goes. While I don't have the numbers for the new Hayabusa, they should be similar to the Kawi Ninja ZX-14. Per Motorcyclist Magazine, the published peak rear wheel numbers for the ZX-14 (Feb 08) and Duc 1098 (Jan 07) were-
ZX-14 167.2 HP 105.2 Ft. Lbs.
1098 144.3 HP 90.9 Ft. Lbs.
Then again, when Motorcyclist previewed the new Busa (Aug '07), they stated "considering the fact that the ZX-14 makes a buck seventy-five at the rear wheel....one can assume the 'Busa will make at least that, and likely more." What happened to those extra eight ponies is anybodies guess.

Both the ZX14 and the new Busa seem to have in excess of 190 BHP on tap..........

They may, but that link doesn't really work for me, at least to prove your point. The Motorcyclist numbers are for bone stock bikes. Are we talking apples and oranges here?

The ultimate machine, as far as I'm concerned, is one that has the proper balance of torque/hp for what it will be used for. Also, someone mentioned NHRA earlier. Just for the record, the Harley V-Twins consistently out perform any other engine designs in 1/4 mile racing. In fact, the NHRA has made Harley racers add weight to their bikes,so other manufactures are more competitive.

I was searching last night for an article I had read on this very fact I almost couldn't believe that I had actually read here. What Harley rider hadnt learned that lesson in a quarter-mile

I was hoping he was referring to bone stock ones, tho even stock they will get sportbikes out of the hole. But the V-Twin wasnt designed to do 180mph, so of course it doesnt get our bikes on the top end.

Thisis the best example I have seen and I will have to agree with youoverall perspective V twinsare sprinter and not long-distanc haulers but I can remember seeing some old articles about the V 4 sending the in-line 4 the way of the dinosaur and It could have possibly happened if it hadn't been for soft metal minor design flaw and bad publicity and before anyone starts I'm speaking of theV 65 series
