is it possible to transfer the electrics into the cover?
a mean is it rocket science or normal person can do it. my electrics are ok - just the cover is broken

Yeah.... just got back from almost getting hit again. This was the closest one. I was driving through town... maybe 25-27 and he was pulling out of a bank. Didn't even look. I was prepared as... if I don't make eye contact with someone, I know they haven't seen me... but holy **** that was close. He didn't pull out like normal people do, He creeped forward and gunned it only to slow back down with his rear quarter panel at my front tire. He almost got me with his rear wheel. I got clear and started screaming my head off like a high school kid. Man I was pissed off. Then he pulls up to me at the light. "Oh, I'm so sorry sonny, I didn't even see you." I just threw out a "Jesus Christ!" and left.

 

Yes, it's possible - but not that easy. For the central field coils there are three bolts which are covered in epoxy, which has to be removed before you can get the central coil out. That's the hardest part......(apart from cutting the wires, to give you as much soldering room as possible for later.
The outer coil just sits inside the casing, and once the plug unit is removed and wires cut, it will come out of the casing without too much trouble.
You are then left with an empty casing........
Would it not be possible for you to either
*epoxy the parts back together
*have the parts welded by a specialist welder...?
I'd be happy to send you the casing, if those are not options, remembering of course that my unit rebuild actually FAILED due to poor rewinding of the central field coil, and I'm not certain what else was done to the casing....I suspect nothing, so you are gambling postage costs - there's no charge for the casing. Up to you. I can take photos if you wish.....

 

i try to use epoxy or find a good welder, alltought the wleding seems a bit risky business anyway, because it has very thin walls and to weld that it may be very hard or even impossible ( going to check that tomorrow at local university).
If it is possible to weld, then probably i have to remove the electrics anyway, because the heat might harm them.

So now my first choice is epoxy and just need to pray a god that it will hold.

I live in central Florida,you should be here when all the snow birds come down for the winter.I swear none of them can drive worth a s***,I don't know how they get down here! We lose quite a few bikers every year just in my town to dumb -*** Geezers that shouldn't be driving to begin with.Just last week we lost three,all to Geezers in cars killing them. It's gotten so bad that I don't ride much in the winter,the best time of the year for a bike here,it's just too Damn dangerous.Problem is when the snow birds go back home the ones that are left here are the ones that are too old and and too bad of drivers to make the trip home! I've driven defensively my whole life and I'm 60 now. so you can guess how old a lot of the drivers around here are!I guess I'm done with my rant now,but if you live in Florida you have first hand knowledge of what I'm talking about.Morayman..............

@ Kaska, You should try using JB Weld on your cover. It claims to be 20% stronger than steel after it cures. Ive used it on the crankcase cover on my bike when it was leaking oil and its been holding up great so far. You seem to have a pretty clean break so it should be the perfect solution.

 

Just to add my 2 cents worth to the sensible comments Gill just made - when you refit it, tap the centre of the cover with a rubber or plastic mallet to ensure that it's straight on the shaft.....until it seats properly.I suspect that it was out of line when you tried last time, resulting in the broken section.

Oh also, we have our version of snowbirds here too, doddery old wealthy farts who come to the sub-tropical coast where I live, and generally mess everything up. My buddy Quintin is a sat.diver, and he T-boned a 70 year old woman who u-turned in front of him, nearly causing him to lose a dive contract in Malaysia......not to mention TRASHING the whole front end, tank and engine guards , bending the frame and bars on a PRISTINE, ORIGINAL GS1000G. And she had no insurance !!!!!!! Made me sick[:@][:@]
