For anyone planning on an 18 tooth up front
Well went at installing a new BIG 18 up front (It's BIG) in a make you
nervous kind of way. But MAN it is super smoother for shifting, and all roun
on the driveline generally speaking ...... nearly thought the old girl was
shaft driven it was that good.
ONE BIG ISSUE
It's not bolt it and go, the 18 does not clear the rear tab
and binds ever so slightly.
Get your dremel and get ready to grind the rear chain guide tab which is
part of the casing .........only an 1/8 " very little really very easy too
Anyhoo a pic or 2 says a thousand words
Enjoy

Looks good ... sounds great ...wonder what yu top speed will be now ?? 210mph-ish ? ..........
Sheesh !! it looks like a rear sprocket !!
Gawd , I hope you flushed all those grindings away from the main shaft seal before re assembling her ..

" Why " hmmm....
Taller gearing : - can increase fuel economy - will lower engine RPM on long trips ... which makes for less vibration and noise
As mentioned , it has made the CBRF feel smoother ? prolly because of the lower revs ??
I have never bothered with altering gearing , but hey , if it turns your wheels , go for it I recon ...

I bet it does cruise nice on the open road.
I went 2+ in the rear for the opposite effect. A little better accel, but higher rpms when "cruising" and a lower top speed. Not too worried about the top speed, as I don't really need to go past 150mph too often.
Thanks for the info, Mr. Spacely. Interesting to know...

Well rode her down to work this am (32 miles) and it was a joy all the way.
Brings the RPM's down which makes for a quiet ride sine this is teamed up
with a 44 rear it brings the ratio to 2.44 (stock is 2.47) . GPS showed Speedo
now runs about 1 to 2mph greater than actual. Expect the mpg will be a little bit
better maybe an extra 1 or 2 mpg.
That's why P God, and of course I like moving the bike ratio's around makes for
very different riding experiences with the bike.

Fork seals next ..........the rights gittin' worse
Yeah Steve made sure to clean her good before buttoning her up again

Will do MP thanks for the tip
Stopped by the local bike shop near work and got him to price doing the forks 'cause I don't have the seal driver (though could make one) he wanted $180 ..........think I'll give him the work they're good guys and sometimes it's just plain good to support the local shop........so I'll ask him for new bushings as well.
Like to "keep in with the local bike shop" and support them even when I could just do it myself. Forks can get a bit messy or maybe I'm just a bit
lazy but with them the bike will be done in 4 hours and no riding time
is lost.
Weather has picked up riding time is valuable.
My run home was the nuts ............pushed her hard
Adrenaline was a pumping love watching the toll booth and all other
traffic becoming mere pin dots in my mirrors in seconds......
YEEEAAAAAAHHHHH
