Default alternator chain... noob to cbr's

im Brendan, i just took posession of an 88 cbr1000f hurricane in the blue/black and red...practically mint, second owner( my dad bought it new) he broke it 16 years ago and im getting it running again...anyone know how to do an alternator chain?

88 hurricane 1000f-i, hasnt run in 16 years, just needs cleaned up and....

do i for sure need to split the case to replace the alt. chain? it has 13k and change so should i do the cam chain and oil pump chain too? any and all input would be helpful. unless you tell me to get another bike lol. but im a jet mechanic and have mechanical talent enough to do it, but my one bedroom apartment complex prolly wont like it torn up out back...if i can keep it together to do all the work i want to. HALP!!

As far as I know, you have to split the casings to do the alternator and oil pump chains - I've done the camchain in place - use a chain with a masterlink.
If you need a manual look in the tech section, plenty of detail there !
Best of luck ! And welcome to the Forum !

Sorry mate. If you do need to replace the alternator chain it's split the cases. I was not able to find a split link chain. Remember it doubles as the starter chain too.
Why do you think it's bust?? 13k is not a lot for one of these.
If you do need to do it, it's a big job but as long as you take your time & do it to the book it's easily done in two days. Just make sure of your symptoms first & have the parts waiting.

Made me wonder if someone tried to start it & it backfired through the carbies?? That can break the tensioner. I found that one out the hard way.
