Default 94CBR1000F pos cct prob

Hi everyone...Sorry I posted this in tech area then found this forum which is where i think it should be....
My Delemma: I have just purchased a 94 CBR1000 (after wanting one for decades) and I have what I think is a cam chain or cct problem....intrestingly though the bike starts fine and doesn't rattle much at all....the main problem seems to be passing through the 2500-3000rpm range where the rattle is terrible...seemingly worse when slowing down to stop in 1st or 2nd gear....however if I pull the clutch in the noise stops immiediatly.....Does this sound like cct or chain or valve prob etc etc. You can e-mail me on tonyronnii@westnet.com.au Any help would be really apprieciated.....Cheers

Sounds more like a clutch problem to me.

Cam chains generally make a noise UP TO around 2500RPM when cold
Clutch is not a big issue - you can do it yourself with a bit of handy spanners and help from the guys here...............
Take about 3 hours for the whole job I'd say, including tea !.

It MAY be the balancer shaft, also not a problem, about 20 mins to adjust........

Clutch I hadnt thought of that.....when the bike is not in gear and I rev it through the 2000rpm it rattles as well, though not as bad and it does shut up over 2500 the bike has done 82,000km now.....

It could be both camchain and clutch at that mileage.
Mine's done almost that now and had a couple of replacement camchains and two clutches..................
It could even be a stuffed chain.
Really hard to tell without sound.....................

I will try to record or diagnose a bit deeper.....it is mostly promanant on decelaration, but only just before stopping or riding in 1st gear thru a carpark, if i pull the clutch in rattle goes immiediatly. I will start it from cold tomorrow morning and and try to be a bit more specific.....thanks heaps for your reply's guys

Default Things to look for

Check

Clutch center locknut and washer are torqued down

If they seem okay

I recommend you might as well open it up and
check clutch lifter bearing in behind clutch pressure plate
if okay keep going then & check needle bearing too.

But then of course by this point now you are into it,
far enough to just go ahead and do a clutch job........
not too difficult as previously mentioned

Lifter or needle bearing most likely though, to me, s'pecially if it
vanishes when you pull the clutch and the bearing then
becomes loaded.........might have had wrong lube in it at
some point or not enough or just plain neglected

OK I made a recording but can't attach it...it says invalid file !!!!!

I cold started the bike this morning on choke no problems....warmed it up no problems....on doublestand ran it up through the gears no problem.

Took it for a ride down the road rattle starts....only between 2000 and 3000rpm above or below this the bike is perfect, so it appears to be a load issue and only when in gear eg. pull the clutch in rattle disapears instantly even if I maintain 2-3000rpm when clutching.

the rattle will not occur when in neutral and holding between 2-3000rpm or at any other time. I have just read this post back to myself and realized I think I have a clutch problem. I am going to have to get a workshop maunal and check the things mkavanagh suggests as a start as It would be a bummer to relpace cct and chain only to find problem still exists.....Anyway really apprieciate all your help and will keep you posted. If anyone has experienced this problem please let mre know.
cheers

Well tony, Shadow will post up a link for the manual (he's good like that), and I've already done a basic clutch job (see link in sig) that can get you started
