Default 93 Model-RR bad?

On my way home from work Friday and my sweetheart started stuttering about 4 miles from home. When I stopped at a stop sign about 1/2 mile from home it completely died, dash lights and everything. I was so close to home, and my truck was already hooked to my camper, so I just pushed it on home(Yes, my thighs are sore!).

Charged the battery today and started the engine. With the voltmeter, I got 11.3 volts at the battery, all the way to 5k on the tach. I'm sure it would have started dropping the longer I ran it. No increase in volts at all.

1. Are there any other tests I need to perform?
2. If it's the RR, where can I get a good quality reasonable priced plug and play unit in the US?
3. Is the RR on the right side under the seat, behind the rear plastic?

I have been on the go lately, but I did do a search this morning and have read a little bit. Just hoping you guys can help me cut to the chase about what I need to do.

Thanks guys!! My Hurricane has given me 25,000 trouble free miles(65,000 total miles), so I guess it was about time something temporarily put me down on riding her. Hopefully, not for long though!!

R/R is on left side under the rear cowl. Check the wires leading to the R/R first- they are known to fry.

Thanks guys! The wires at the plug are good. Do I need to check anywhere else?
Can I order from Electrex in the US?

nope must be ordered from the UK ....Electrex World Limited - Electrical Parts for Motorcycles

http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/acatalog/RR23.html

requires wiring in their plug ........and that's easy real easy

I told them (Lisa) that Pete (Shadow) referred me , had it in
like 6 days from the UK

Did your battery get toasted (boiled off ) Ronnie ??

If so ya might have to consider a fresh one to go with the new R/R

Thanks sprock. My battery is fine. Guess I was I was lucky on that end. And that it only broke down a half a mile from home. That bike sure has been good to me. It's a regular commuter to work.

From the title, I thought this was about the 93 900RR. On my 1990, the ground wire from the R/R (Green w/ black stripe) is grounded to the fuel level sensor. Yucks. I ran a ground wire from the R/R right to the negative terminal of my battery. I would try that first.

Ordered one from elextrex last night. I couldnt find good reviews on other ones I had looked at. This is not a part I want to take a chance on a sub standard unit! I'm sure you all agree.
