91 parts swap to 87 ??
We'll this all started with a wheel swap (got that covered, Yeah!!! Yeah!!!).
When I first got the 87 (1993) I ask locally ( dealer & salvage yard) if I could swap wheels. I was repeatedly told nothing from the new model could be used on the 87. Go figure!
Now I am wondering if anyone has information about the front suspension assembly (fork, trees, bars etc...). Is this a strait forward unbolt, bolt on/torque swap from a 91 to an 87, or is it more involved and time consuming.
As the 87 sit's now, can I use 91 wheels and rotors with the 87 calipers or do I need to use the 87 rotor's on the 91 wheels in order to use the 87 calipers as they are now? I hope that's not too confusing.
Also, are there any other parts from a 91 that or a direct swap (or with little modification) to the 87?
Help with these questions would be great.

RE: 91 parts swap to 87 ??
Thanks Dragon,
I have found that to be true.
What I really am not clear on is the front suspension assembly. Can I take the entire 1991 CBR, front assembly (fork, calipers, trees, bars & electrics) and bolt it all directly to the 1987 CBR without modifications (or much)??

RE: 91 parts swap to 87 ??
I have descovered that the 87 CBR 1000 rotors and the 91 CBR 1000 rotors may be the same size, but the 91 rotors or thicker.
I don't think the 91 rotors would work with the 87 calipers. Can anyone confirm that for me?
Also, is there someone out there who can shed light on the fork swap, from a 91 CBR 1000 to a 87 CBR 1000? I have searched without success, maybe it's my inept computer skills, coupled with poor eye sight :-)

I'm not sure, but I don't remember anyone else having done this mod on the Forum.....
May be why there isn't much information. I would think that if the main shaft through the triple trees is the same diameter and length, you should be able to bolt the later front end on.....?
Rotors on old bike may be worn - they should be the same thickness.....I think ? Carl ?
Download the manual from my siggy, and look it up......If the manual doesn't specifically say the parts are different, then they should be the same.......

RE: 91 parts swap to 87 ??
91 rotor thickness spec: front - 4.8-5.2, service limit 4.0 rear - 5.8-6.2, service limit 5.0
87 rotor thickness spec: front - 4.3-4.7, service limit 3.5 rear - 4.8-5.2, service limit 4.0
In my mind they are not compatible.
On the forks. I have not yet found specs on the 91 or the 87 in either manual. I think the steering stems have the same diameter (use same bearing kit / All *****).
But I can not find specs on the fork tube diameter. If the tubes are the same, I would just swap those out along with the 91 calipers and rotors.
Guess I need to measure the 87 and ask for a measurement on the 91, in the absence of any specifications in print.
Anyway's thanks for all the feed back.
