I'm willing to get the ball rolling and biff in $10 to help Seb buy a decent caliper. Does anyone else want to contribute? or shall I just send him my one and use that as an excuse to buy myself one of them new fangled digital ones?
You're a hard man TK. That might have been my Grandfather's caliper - but it isn't
. Yes it has had a hard life, I found it in a trailer full of rubbish going to the dump, and lovingly scraped the rust off it, WD40'd, oiled and now use it often. The good ones stay in their cases waiting for the next engine rebuild.Cheers, SB
So I don't have an excuse to buy a digital one? Damn.
PS : why do you look in trailer loads of rubbish going to the dump?
Oh yes, I know, exactly the same reason I do.
You just never know what you might find; a kind of Lucky Dip for grown ups.

It was a mate's who was moving interstate and down sizing. Didn't want the trailer so loaded it with "rubbish" and said I could keep the trailer on the proviso I dumped the "rubbish". All sorts of hoarder goodies were scored
Later developed the trailer into the insect Trailer Trap for the PhD and sold that to Chevron/Gorgon for use on Barrow Island. It really was a win from start to finish.Cheers, SB
We are so disturbingly alike.

Here are some measurements for the MKI

55mm end to end - SAME as MKII

50mm Diameter for the body - SAME as MKII
Final piece of the puzzle - what is the offset of the gear from the end. The MKI is

19mm from end of part to far side of gear. Chatting to Seb soon I hope to get this final measurement
The main body is longer on the MKII however looking inside the casings it will still fit. Very close to ordering a MKII anyway.....

From the end of the damper to the START of the gear is a bee's d*ck (Entomological measurement
) under 8mm. From the end of the damper to the back of the gear is 19.2 old rusty analogue mm <- is that the measurement??
And thanks for using that shiny new digital measuring stick. I'll never hear the end of it from my good mate TK now

Cheers, SB
