Unhappy 87 Hurricane ISSUES..

Alright, so I have an 87 CBR1000F Hurricane..
I'm 19, Freshman in college.

I picked it up for 120 bucks from my friend, it was his dads, had been wrecked, he wanted his money back from his new front tire before it had it's issue..

Since then, i've had it for about 2 years.

It's been working off and on, awesome riding, especially to school.

Original problem was broken alternator tensioner, fixed that,
many problems have came up and I have replaced them, such as:

replaced coilpacks,
wires,
NGK-high spark plugs,
pulse generator
starter relay/30amp fuse
battery
new blinker
fixed some fairing pieces etc,

the last thing I did was change out the dampner, very expensive 200 dollars...or so.=/ was a birthday/graduation present too. (which didn't need replacing, have the used good one still if anyone wants to buy it)

and the starter gear and starter clutch.

I have about $800 into the bike so far, plan to restore it. maybeee sell it, maybe.. nawh.. Love it to much..

everything mechanical is good on it, and everything electrical SHOULD be good on it.. all fuses good.

NOW, I go to start it and it just keeps turning over, wanting to fire, it's getting spark.

doesn't turn on, just keeps turning..

I'm thinking that it's something with the carbs.?

when I first tried they leaked out a lot.

Could they just be plugged up and this is what is happening that it won't start?

If anyone knows what I can do to get my Hurricane back on the road, well running for spring then it would be much appreciated.

anything at all, a guide on what to check/ do.

Thank you very much.

An 87 has a fuel pump, download the manual, check out the pump test procedure and report back. They can fair drive you crazy, one day I'll tell you how I know.

Thanks guys, it's getting fuel, but where exactly can I download the manual at?

I've tried starter fluid too, and seafoam is awesome, but how would that work since the bike won't turn on?

I think i'll clean the carbs and go from there, is there any how to's on that?

These bikes have enrichners instead of a choke. Due to the EPA, back when they were built, they were leaned out. They will not start w/o a richer mixture.

I had a problem after the bike sat during the winter. When I rotated the enrichner (choke) ****, it moved and gave me a false feeling that the enrichners were moving. It would not start. I lifted the tank and checked them. NOPE! The slide that the cable is on was not moving and not pulling the enrichners out. Hope it's that simple.

Mine did that, turned out the ferrule at the cable end wasn't gripped tightly enough in the wee metal holder thing. Pull on the lever and rather than opening the enrichers the end of the cable just slid through the holder.

You can only spot it if you lift the tank and watch what happens when you push on the choke lever.

Duplicitous old tart, I'm sure sometimes that she sits down there at night plotting her next move.

I used a long screwdriver and pushed the slider to the right and it fired up.
