87 fairings - what would you pay
Hi all,
Having read through the threads, I've found a severe lack of reproduction fairings for the mk1.
I am currently investigating having moulds taken of mine and having a small production run made.
My question is, who would be interested in a full kit or a specific fairing and at what cost is reasonable?
Also, I live in Aus, so IF this goes ahead, postage has to be taken into account, however we can think about this one I workout if it will be viable.
Ps - this is not business advertising... Purely a enthusiast trying to helpful.
Cheers

Rolli,
Check this out mate. Imo you would be far better off getting them from here even with postage costs.
HONDA CBR1000 1987-88, CBR1000, fairings, bodywork, fairing, upper, lower, mid, seat side, race, street, fender, tail, undertail, tank

Hi bordo,
Yes, have seen that website. My issue is that it's not a complete set (inc dash) and they are fibreglass - I can make them in my garage for significantly less.
I am proposing proper plastics, new uv stabilised that doesn't get brittle like that stuff from 87.
It's only a thought at this stage, to gauge demand.

I all,
This looks like it will be will be possible, but there will be some time, effort and costs involved to get only one set made up, however once done it will be simple to reproduce.
I'm happy to go ahead if I can gauge demand for multiple sets. If I can get about 10 sets made at once, the costs decrease for all. After which I can start looking at individual parts as well.
Please reply if your interested.

650 USD for a full kit but shipping here would be a complete barstud !
I think the better route would be to produce the hard to find ones
Complete Upper Cowling
left and right main large side fairings
Belly pan
left and right inner panels that join at the tank
Recoup more of your time and labour that way imo
with some extra cash left over
Everything else is easily found imo
Me right now if I could get "clean" upper cowling
and left and right large side fairings - I'd be happy
But I think you would not find a rush of interest
more like somewhere between 5 and 10 customers
a year with a mix of requests for major pieces to
entire kits
Thing would be to set a progressive pricing structure
"the more the value of the purchase - the better the
discount" - basic marketing

Sprock - thanks for the ball park pricing, seeing the au and us $ is at parity at the moment, should be ok, and will get cheaper as the $us normalises. if you pm me your rough location I'll investigate postage costs (if someone in the Uk can do the same, then I'll go back to the guys I'm talking to to produce to see if I can get it to work.
Sprock - when you say inner panels, do you mean around the dash? And upper cowling being the nose cone?

The MK1 fairings are available
http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/...7-88.htm#price
Maybe if you made the bits that others don't it may be profitable.

Yep Nose Cone & inner panel being the two that run left and right under
from tank handlebars to meet the clocks
Nose cones and large main left and rights will be the ones most
in demand tho' imo
