i dont have a neutral light but do when i pull in clutch. If it was a faulty switch i wouldn't get a hit and miss spark correct?

Have you tried jumping the bike off a car battery yet or replacing the battery with a known good one? I think this is still suspect even with your measured voltage during cranking. I'll have to get the wire diagram to get some more specific points to look at.

Sounds like he's got her running. Must be the current has to pass through the neutral light.

Intermittent spark can still be a connection/ground issue, but can't rule out a component. IF you can repeat the failure with regularity, we may be able to troubleshoot, if not and it's totally random, you will just have to throw parts at it.
Once more check and insure connectors and grounds are clean and sound.
Look to the wire print and see where the CDI box gets power, monitor it with a voltmeter/test light-does it go away when the spark does? Does the CDI have a dedicated ground connection to the chassis? Clean and tight?

got her running only too mess something else up. started up was idling and i reved it up, little did i know the start button was stuck so the started clutch was engaged. When i rolled in the throttle terrible sound admitted. totally trashed the starter. What the chances of trashing the starter clutch also? guess i will find out when mine comes in from ebay
