i just picked up a 93 900rr and it runs a little rough when i start it up so i was thinking the carbs could use a clean/rebuild. i have no idea how many miles are on the bike (no gauges) and when it was last serviced, so i was just going to give the bike a full tune up.

my question is; would this be a good time to rejet the carbs as well since they will already be apart (planning on buying a factory jet kit and some other goodies)? if so do i need a full system after i rejet or will a slip on suffice? besides new plugs, new filters, and new fluids what else should get work or at least checked? i really want to get this bike running well so if you have any advice please chime in.

my first bike was a 93 900rr, before i sold it i did a few mods that really woke her up. First off, a dynojet kit along with a k&n REALLY wakes this bike up. The jet kit comes with different sized jets for use with stock exhaust, or a slip/bolt on pipe or a full exhaust. An experienced mechanic will do a good job choosing which ones to use depending on what you have done to your bike. I also got an RK chain kit with a -1 front sprocket, this kicked the acceleration up significantly (not to mention made wheeling a breeze!) Also I got a timing tab installed which increased the mid-range torque (right where you want it increased.) All these mods are fairly simple and fairly cheap to do, yet you get a huge performance increase. A tip: if you're going to do all this, do it all at once so you REALLY feel a big difference! good luck and keep the rubber side down!!
