600RR or 1000RR, same price - which one to get?
Hello,
I am new to this forum and I am looking for a bigger bike. I currently have a ninja 250 and I want a 600RR. However, the dealer here has 2008 1000RR's for about the same price as a 2009 600RR (no ABS). I am 5'10" and 130 lbs. Will I be able to handle the larger 1000? I just wanted some opinions as I am going to test drive them both soon... I do about 60/40 highway/street driving...
Thanks,
-Tom

hey there and welcome to the forums!! :-)
The latest 600RR has such a good spread of power these days it's all you really need,
but then some people want more ... you will find the 600RR unbelievable after a 250cc bike, I would go 600 route first and get more experience, but the throttle does go both ways and only you know how mature and how much self control you have ... can you get a test ride on a late model 08 onwards 600RR?? ..they really are *that* good now :-)
Best of luck and take care
Jules

Me, I'd go with the 600. I'm pretty good at mindin the throttle on my 600. But occasionally I crack the throttle just to make sure she can jump like a scalded cat. She can. Don't really see the need with my frame (5' 10" 153lbs) to have a bike that jumps like a cat with a 220v line shoved up its ***.
My real concern would be how used to the 250 you've gotten. The bigger the bike, the less forgiving its gonna be at the beginning. If you've been riding the 250 for a while, you might do something you did naturally with the 250 on either a 600 or 1k. And the difference in recovery time allowed could be crucial. The jump from a 250 to a 600 is big. But that's better than trying to leap to a 1000
