What is the largest motor you can put in a 1996 F3? Or is the case the same size but they have different sleeves/jugs on some of the bikes?
I was wondering because I was looking at mod. the bike pretty heavily soon and want a bigger more torqued motor, I have done lots of mustangs and race cars and have fouled around with fourwheelers and stuff but now I have had my F3 for about 2 yrs. now and I need more power but my F3 handles like no ones business, and I don't know why, I blow my buddy away on his R1 2002 Model I believe through the hard curves but on the straights he just laughs at me, have money but have no exp. with street bike motors and size or fitment!

why do you care if he blows you away on straights if you can chew him in the twisties? Obviously your a much better rider...thats all that matter. Stop the competitive street racing before you or your buddy get hurt/killed.

Also..the biggest swap for a f2/f3 is the 900rr...but for what its worth...you get like another 15-20hp...for all of that you might as well get a newer 600

 

It's more than 15-20 hp. I think the F3 has 90 or so and the 900rr has about 130, so your looking at a 40 HP increase. Do a search I think someone has a writeup on it. BUT if you do the swap your bike won't be as nimble because it has more weight and won't be able to cut through the twisties as well, that is also why you have so much of an advantage over your friend in them. Just think what you would rather have.

 

You must be stating to the wheels...the engines themselves make about 100-105hp But even so...with a 900rr motor...and the already heavy f3...your still going to get left by an R1...just not as badly....

If you really li.ke the way a 600cc honda handles...get yourself a 600rr...it'll be faster/quicker, handle as good if not better(once you adjust) and it'll have more power than your f3. Throwing off the geometry of your bike isn't worth it IMO...just be happy your a better rider(obviously)

 

All true but I was just wondering so i could do some figuring and see which would be cheaper/neater, I like riding stuff that I build. Nothing wrong with buying something but I just like to build!
On another hand I play around with turbos slightly and was wondering if anyone has put one on a F3? But as I stated above I know very little about bikes, I know they have high compression(a HUGE NO NO for boosted app.) but are the pistons forged, cast, hyper.? Could go with N20 (Great for higher compression, but what about the cams??? Does anyone have a thorough spec sheet for the F3 (1996) cam degree,lift,duration,etc. Piston material, rod material, Crank material, etc.
I know how to make stuff go faster but no idea what is inside of my bike!?

Thanks for the input, you guys are great, most forums just tell "NEWBIES" to Search but I know all the go fast stuff just don't know the bike stuff yet, plus everything that has a motor is basically the same( same principal, different application!!!!!)

 

If you want some real power, I'm talking like stand it up in 4TH gear power then install a turbo to your F3. It will be way easier and cheaper then installing a larger engine. Just imagine how you will walk away from other bikes thinking you have a little CBR 600 but you will totally surprise them. There is a guy on this site that did it and I am sure you can find that info and do it yourself.

Because it can be done and it has been done before. Why spend over two thousand dollars on a engine upgrades and changing the frame when you can just run a turbo for a few hundred bucks. Here are some pictures of the bike I mentioned. From your question above I can tell you really don't know to much about air induction. Just to let you know turbo charging has been around for almost a hundred years now and I can insure you the engines in those days used curbs.

And that right there is a perfect example of "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should" And the first turbocharger is over 100 years old....and even so...it didn't see cars until the 50's and that was the racing scene, it didn't hit a stock vehicle until the 60's. The first charged bike....1970's....

On another note, not to be confrontation(a bit late maybe)....did you bother asking if this was his commuter bike? After all....it's longevity is going down the ****ter with a turbo.
He may live somewhere where he has all winter to build...all spring/summer to ride...don't want to be down in spring because of a blown motor...

 

I am not about to get caught up in a argument of history or benefits of a turbo booster. You know what you know and I know what I know. End of topic as far as I am concerned.
