Default removing baffels in stock pipe...

I was talking with a couple guys at my local bike hang out and they were talkin about drilling out or cutting out the baffels in their stock cans. They said it sounds good and dosen't harm much the bike. Anyone had any experience with this or know if it's a good plan or not. The funds are low and I'd like to have a little louder can asap. Any help would be appreciated.

i punched out mine in my 06 f4i. it does sound a little better to me. its not near as noticable as a aftermarket pipe, but hey, its FREE!!!!
i used a 1/4" rod i had and sharpened the end, then once i had a hole made in the baffle,i used a 1/2" stick of all thread and knocked it on through. it actually broke loose the welds from one side and pushed it over to the other side
it sounds really cool at like 3000 rpms. it lopes

i did it to both my 1000RR and my new 600RR

you take about a 18"long drill extension and attach a 1" metal holesaw to it

make sure the bike is running so that the exhaust blow the chips out the back instead of into the pipe

Finally got around to drilling a hole in the baffel. It made a slight differance in the sound a little more raspier at certain rpm's. Nothing in power as far as I can tell. It was pretty easy to do, like BAXSOM said, you'll need the at least an 18" drill extension, I used two 12inchers to get the job done and then a 1 inch hole saw bit. You can only use 1 inch cuz nothing bigger will fit through the muffler outlet. the best place to drill through is the right side of the can(looking from the tip of the muffler)where the piping connects to the muffler. I removed the whole assembly and put it in a vice, I was too worried about **** gettin into the piping and plus there would be a 1inch circular piece of metal floating around in there. Don't get wild with the drill speed at first, you'll end up with the bit trying to cut holes everywhere, go slow and get the metal scored with the bit and then increase you're speed. If you're looking fora cheap way to get the stock exhuast a little louder then this is what to do. I'm going to try and remove the whole baffel pretty soon, I'll let you know how that turns out, and I'll try and get some pictures up soon.

HAHA,, you just flushed a smooth HP/torque curve down the toilet...Now youy will need that $$$$ slip-on, jet kit, possible dyno time... what a ... Ya always listen to the doofs, at the local... put cards on your rims it sounds cool, for 138.5 rpm span... I KNOW you lost some bottom end... I know you gain hardly measurable anywhere... Wow cool... learn about what you are trying to do... why, what, what the heck the real outcome does... Oh and while I'm smok'n you ... that muffler will be gettting you,cop looks... There are a million threads here telling you how to "Properly" make HP... what , why.. HOW !!!!!! Meanwhile blog up "revision therory "on the web... and see what a goofy thing you just did. No, no one else made you... but you did get some"worthless" advice...
"Wow,I just got back from a GP... "do you think those bikes are "just loud' w/ no tunning of EVERYTHING?????, in conjuction w/ EVERY THING ELSE... the the suspension tuned, to embrace the power/torque curves... This thread reeks of airshocks, coleslaw spinner hubcaps, no mirrors, and no clue. Learn... live!!!!

wow dude chill
dork
just to prove you wrong i am posting the dyno sheet of a totally stock 07 600RR with the baffles punched out that was made just a few days ago.

the bike has 200 miles on it
temp 93F
max power was 97 rwhp which according to the other stock 07 600rr that this shop has done was spot on
the 96 on the map is the pre punched out
the 97 is the post punched out so as you can see not a lot of difference but the power and torque curve stayed the same just slightly higher after opening it up
i may be no expert but the papers dont lie
not saying that you are wrong or anything far be it from me to call out someone but i have on paper proof that my power curve is fine, where is yours.
next thing you are going to tell me is that the HTEV was put there for low end torque and not epa noise restrictions

Hahahahah - 97rwhp out of an 07 600RR?!?!? Damn - that sucks.

My wife's stock 05 600RR just dyno'd the other night at 101.4rwhp. The hottest bike done that night was a new ZX14R that put out 161rwhp.

different bikes
different dynos

apples to oranges

the 06s with full systems engine head work and custom maps were only doing 105 on this dyno

being a "super member" one would have thought you would have been around long enough to know that every dyno gives different numbers
