Default Expanding the RR's Bag of tricks...literally

I've been looking for a solution for my bike's lack of cargo capacity that would make it a better daily commuter, without destroying the Bikes aesthethics, or her sporting character.

My tank bag digs into my chest, and becomes a pain in the A$$ if I'm going to the mall or someplace similar, as I really couldn't leave it unattended on the bike.

So I decided to make my own solution.

Keep in mind this is just a Mock up, and the final result will be color matched to the bike, and mounted on a spare passenger seat pan to lock it to the bike with a key, and to also make it quickly reversible if I don't need the storage.

I found this little beauty on a store that sells those chinese made scooters, and their accessories...

It even fits a full face helmet in it (barely)... Small enough to not look too much like elefantitis, but big enough to be useful... they had some smaller boxes that might have looked better, but they were all the same price, and I couldn't pass up the fact that I can put the helmet on this one if I ever have the need.

I like the "Back Pad" and the black hinges, and the fact that it is not just a square lunch box...hopefully it will look even better when it is color matched to the bike, and with a little Upholstery finishing off the seat pan.

Doesn't look too bad from the front...

...Or the sides... It almost looks like a very preagnant version of the Honda Seat cowl...

The only angle I'm still not too fond of, is the view from straight behind.

So far I've spent $80 on the box, , and $20 on a used seat (I didn't want to tear into my good seat) Depending on how much the body shop charges me for color matching it to the bike (I love that pearl white) I still should end up ahead than if I boughtsome GIVI luggage, or even some good saddlebags, and end up with something unique, lockable, and locked to the bike.

We'll see how it turns out.

I would rather wear a backpack. It is probably just me but it doesn't go with the style of the bike.

^^Except when you have to take home a gallon of milk, or have documents with you and it is raining.
Keeping the disk brake lock in the backpack is a PITA as well as you have what ammounts to a fairly large lead brick rattling in there.

Or when taking a long(ish) trip (needing some luggage) and want toride some decent twistys along the way.

I know, I'm treading on VFR territory, but the interceptor was 3K more than the CBR, and I liked the CBR better, I already have a tank bag (that I don't really like) and use a backpack once in awhile, as well as a cargo net.
I'm just exploring a more elegant option to expand the capabilities of the bike

As long as it can be removed easily then it's a big win. Diversity is awesome.

That's why I'm mounting it to a Passenger seat pan.

I will be able to install/remove it as essily as swapping out the passenger seat for the seat cowl, and it will be locked to the bike with the same key.

I think it's one of the more useful mods I've seen posted here actually.

X is right pretty useful... i mean i guess you cant knock a guy for putting a bigo box on a sportbike its still a sportbike!! about the vfr thing though, those bikes are pretty cool, if i had a long commute id look into geting one of the olderones, i had a teacher with one of the early 2000s and it looked great.

even if you cant get the paint matched, just paint it white with sum rattle can or sumthing nice and cheap.

edit- heres a story i was laughing at this guy one day whilie i was in my truck waiting at a light bcuz he had sum bigo thing on his tail of his 600rr like the one your building but bigger , than he took a right hander with some pretty decent lean angle and speed, and good form, needless to say... i stoped laughing at him than lol.
