Bummed...new pipe..
So I am all hyped today...got my new Leo Vince slip-on. Oh yea, nice night here in Orygone, and had the music goin in the garage. Got the RR torn way down, things are going good...Aaanndd the new slip-on doesnt fit! Oh yea, the header pipe is too long.. turns out it is the wrong year.. new pipe, correct year..header, wrong year. Called my buddy at the shop, and since its coming from Italy it will be 1-2 weeks... what?? No riding for 2 weeks?? Seriously bad news...totally bummed. [&o]
Tried to re-enact for the photo.. but clearly I look like I have just been had.. sucks when you figure it out after you tear apart your bike...

RE: Bummed...new pipe..
that's not the header, that's the midpipe. what you have is a 2005/2006. what you got was for a 2003/2004. what tips it off is the curve at the bottom. if it's aint straight down, it's 03/04. that's the difference. well, that and the hanger for the 03/04 is dead center, while the hanger for the 05/06 is a dual mount off to the sides.
so you'll need a 2005/2006 hanger and a 2005/2006 midpipe.

RE: Bummed...new pipe..
Took it back to the shop.. it was for an 03/04. So we ordered a new LeoVince for an 05, after I caught them writing the number down for an 03/04 again. I try to support my local shops, but little mishaps like this aggravate me. If I new every bend and length of every pipe and all of the suttle differences from year to year, then I probably wouldnt need the shops help. Ya know what I am sayin?

I feel your pain. I ordered my exhaust online and when it got here I was stoked. I went to the honda shop to get it installed durring the 600 mile service. They call me like 2 hous later and have already cut the stock pipe off to find out that the mounint hardware want in the box wioth the new pipe. They then proceed to tell me that they dont weld and cant put my pipe back on the bike. I told them that they should have inspected the exhaust for all parts before ripping apart my bike and that they need to get it down to a welding shop and have it put back toegether. They did. I got the new hardware commin to me now. I should have in in a week or so and I'll hopefully be able to install in the next 2 weeks.

I don't get it...I'm assuming you've got a late-model bike if you've only got 600 miles on it, so why are they cutting anything? Is it just a slip-on? Nothing should be cut! And why aren't you doing it yourself, instead of paying a shop, at probably a $50-80 an hour rate, to do something as simple as swapping an exhaust? They don't call it a 'slip-on' for nothing; its like a 10 minute job, even for the mechanically dis-inclined.
I don't understand how most motorcycle shops are still in business; I had my R6 serviced once...the $200 (quoted) 2000KM service ended up costing $650 anda scratched tank and mid-fairing, and an extra 3 days due to dealer mishaps. My bikes never go to the dealers any more; why would they, when you can get a shop manual free online, and with informative, helpful forums like this. I'm no mechanic, and yet the stripped down F4i I just bought for $500 bucks is being transformed into a monster, courtesy of this place....with no help from a shop.
Look on the forum here for the shop manual for your bike next time; it'll give you basic, easy to follow instructions on how to do the work yourself. Most, if not all the tools you need are in your kit, and probably in whatever basic toolkit you'll find around the house.
