Default 1000rr damper on F4i?

Hey, has anyone ever thought about fitting a stock steering dampner from a 1000rr to any other honda?
I've been looking at some pics of them and on my freinds 1000rr and it looks like with some drilling and tapping and maybe one custom part I could make it work on my F4i....
I just think the 1000rr damper looks alot cooler than any of the aftermarket ones out there, and you can find one on ebay for pretty cheap if you look hard enough....
anyway, just thought I would run this past you people

The official name of the damper on the 1000RR is HESD for Honda Electronic Sterring Damper. The key word here is Electronic. It has an interface with the CPU to electronically control the amount of dampening. Your F4i would not have this interface. So, at best, you'd have something that looked like a steering damper.

i was thinking the same thing!
https://cbrforum.com/m_84378/tm.htm

the hesd units are around $400 from honda; i got one on ebay for $50 shipped. i noticed the triple clamp on the f4i's are narrower top to bottom than the 1000rr, hopefully that won't be an issue. it would be ideal to swap triple clamps but i believe the rr's forks won't match up.

check out his article:
http://world.honda.com/motorcycle-te...y/hesd/p5.html

basically the ecu calculates a current (voltage) to apply to the hesd unit based upon the speed and acceleration. the f4i lacks that calculating code and outputs, but a piggy-pack unit could accomplish this using the vss (vehicle speed sensor) wire. i'm thinking a microchip pic and related output components, using only simple logic first, based upon speed. once that is successful, go with some more complex logic based upon acceleration (the "3d" mapping honda describes). that could be done by calculating the RATE of change of speed (voltage on vss wire), and/or possibly the TPS (throttle position sensor).

some nice info to know would be the max voltage applied to the hesd. i'm guessing 12 volts, but if someone with an rr could run it up to 100+ on stands and measure the voltage, that'd be very helpful.

i'll let you know how the physical unit matches up with the f4i once i get it.

i got in the HESD unit and there is good news and bad news.

the good:
the two gas tank bolts match up
looks like it will fit with the stock triple - drilling holes of course
it was only $50 shipped on ebay but lists for $400

the bad:
it is BIG. from the 1000rr photos i now see the tank is much higher and flows right into it, and the triple clamp is longer between the tank and key.
the mount has 3 main bolt holes on it; even though the two match up, the one on the top does not. there are also two smaller tabs that have to go.
will need to make variable current control based upon vss signal
did i mention it is BIG?

i'll give more updates as i progress.
