Default 03 F4i LCD MODS?

Has anyone ever heard of someone changing what that big LCD is able to display? In other words, I know it shows the Speedo, Odom, reserve, etc. but has anyone heard of it being reprogramed, or connecting another computer to it, and with new sensors, allowing it to display things like air temp, or a stopwatch, or current gear, or a better fuel meter, etc?

No body has thought of this before huh? We need some computer people to step forward here. I am one, but not of that caliber. Not without a starting point and a crap load of research. Anyone? Bueler? Anyone? Anyone?

Cool idea but instead or re-programming the current on why not just replace the whole display with a detachable marine LCD with maybe a modded pocket PC to run whatever we need? AND we could watch **** while we ride

(I'm pretty sure the dated lcd they come with can only display certain characters outside of #'s)

at the very least it would be nice to have a gear indicator somewhere in that wasted space. truly ideal would be a color screen with the readout superimposed over a gps map. at least in my opinion.

Maybe only while at a stoplight...but the idea has merit. I like the gear indicator idea or at least a 6th gear indicator.

i can do the work for you (the superimposing your info (IE: spedo, odo, etc.) over a GPS map, but it WONT be cheap, you'd essentially need 2 seperate screens in which i would get a new thin skin LCD screen at which point would be layed over top the seperate thin LCD screen for the GPS. now you would have a seperate controll for the GPS. and the thin LCD screen would patch directly into the existing ribbon wire for spedo. etc. info. let me know if your interested, i'll tell you more about it and get you a ROUGH price quote. as for mounting the whole bastard though, that would be up to you--i'd reccomend going to a custom car shop and have them fabricate a fiberglass housing--all i'd be able to do is mount and assemble the electronics of it. though a simple fiberglass box thats roughly 4X6 shouldn't be that expensive. email me at hopkinslax12@aol.com and i'll give you my 2 cents
