Looking to do a quick gearing change to my bike and would like some feedback............I'm either going to do a 15t. on the front or a 42t on the rear. Which is a better mod and why? I've heard opinions on both and would like more feedback. When the 530 wears out on my bike I will be doing a 520 conv. but for the time being, which is the best mod....front or back?

 

They both do exactly the same thing, but by putting the teeth on the rear it`s slighty a gentler way of doing it. I used this gearing calculator to decide for me, i went for rear change because i didn`t want to loose to much of the top end. But I love it and I don`t know why i didn`t do it sooner.

I can`t seem to upload the gearing calculator, MgA_Oden is the man to ask I originally got it from him. It`ll allow you to see the speed changes in every gear for the tooth count you want.

 

anubis is right. front gearing changes are in much bigger steps than the rear. 1 tooth in the front is worth roughly 3 in the rear. most people i know just do the front change tho. the sprockets are cheaper and you don't have to remove the wheel so its alot quicker to install and change back if you don't like it.

 

What type of gearing are you running? Also will jumping up 1 tooth on the rear muck up the speedo. Will a need a healer for this?

What type of difference did you notice?

 

I dropped a tooth off the front and loved it. If you add to much to the back you have to add a link or 2 in your chain.

 

I went 1 up in the rear on my Repsol. Hard to say...but seems to pull a littler harder through low/mid RPM range.

Would have changed to 2 up in the rear, but I do alot of x-way driving and like to keep the revs lower as the bike tends to surge when you hit a bump and your hand tweeks the throttle.

 

i went up 2 at the rear stock chain fits fine, and love the improvement its made to acceleration.
