peg feelers?

I don't have my bike in front of me at the moment as I am out of town... However, on a 05 1000rr --- stock rearsets.... Can the factory peg-feelers be removed? Yes; no?
If so... do they just unscrew or pull out?.......

They usually just screw out. I haven't seen any other kind.
