Default PC3 vs. PC3 EX

What are the differences between the two different Powercommanders (PC3 vs. PC3 EX)? I'm assuming the race one (PC3) will provide the most performance. What types of HP gains could be expected from either?

From what I can tell, the only difference is the EX is CARB certified so that it's legal to use in California. Funny, one of the MSF instructors was talking about how the PC3 was going to be illegal to install in california last year. According to their website that's the only difference. This is straight from their website under the product description for the EX:

"The PCIII EX offers virtually the same tuning functionality as our “race only†Power Commander line, while at the same time complying with the California ARB regulations."

i wonder if it still allows you to include an ignition module. i know with cars changes to ignition timing is frowned upon

Good call Baxom. Looks like that is the significant change. The EX doesn't allow you to use the IG module. That and the mulitport hub are blanked out when you pull down the page for the EX, but they show up when you pull down the PC3 page.

You can not tune anything below 6k(not 100% on the exact lower limit) on a the "EX" pc3ex version(this is where the carb stuff comes in) where you can tune any rpm you want on the PC3

that is wierd especially considering that both have my custom maps are taking a lot of fuel out under 6K.

you would think that would be a good thing

I agree 100% but its the EPA and cali that passes the laws.

I actually get better gas mileage and performance after pulling out the "factory fuel requirements".
