Default To K&N or not to K&N

What do I do?

We have a 2004 CBR 1000RR with Akrapovic and Power Commander. I am told that the K&N will make absolutly no difference from two different dealers, except perhaps change the sound.

Does anyone have an opinion on this. Did I waste my money already mapping this with the factory filter?

I have heard that as well, yet everyone is always talking K&N. How does the increase air flow drop the power I wonder?

I keep hearing changing the filter does nothing but change sound. I am going to for go the filter "upgrade" and I am the first to admit I like to mod my bike. Other then my dark Puig screen and flush mount signals all my mods are for performance reasons and I am staying stock.

I've heard that K&N's make no difference on this bike, and have lost of some in the past (RC51 etc).

I have seen 2 different dyno's on 2 different 1000RR's with the BMC RACE filters, and they GAINED
almost exactly 2.00hp - Also, the BMC's are about a pound lighter then stock. The BMC's are a good
mod, but I suggest only replacing them on track bikes, or when your OEM is dirty/used up.

A Race Filter is for just that.... Race. It will allow alot more air through but also alot more crap since it was never designed for the Street.

I think since some of us rode dirtbikes and atv's. Changing the air filter makes a big difference. People think this is the same for streetbikes. It isn't. Stay stock.

I just couldn't stay stock, but I went for the 4-layer BMC Street's over the 2-Layer BMC Race.
Havn't dyno'd, but it does sound a little different.
Saw no difference @ The drag strip either.

Stay stock. Best bang for the buck.
