HELP....K&N Air Filter Fitment Issue??
A buddy and I just bought K&N's for our bikes, his is a 2005 cbr 1000 and mine is a 2006, both bike have same problem, the air box doesnt reseat fully with them in, the air filter seem about 2-3 mm to tall?? And yes i made sure nothing was left from the old fiter in there.. ANyone else have this problem?? I e-mailed K&N like 5 days ago and never heard back from them... Of course nbody wants to take back air filters once they are rmoved from the package...
I didn't have a problem with my install, although the lid on the box WAS slightly higher than with the stock filters. I just tightened everything down and have not had a problem.
i had the same problem and i called k&n. the filters are made to be TIGHT.. just screw the air box lid back on tight and it will seal completly. i just installed it on my bike yesturday
I put my stock ones back in....when you screw the lid down, your putting to much pressure on the screws, the lid itself is actually bowed now cause of this(very slightly) but still bowed..You should not have that much pressure on those screws, its just plastic over time it will wear the pastic untill POP, there goes the threading..and opening will allow air in, dealer told me point blank, that could void the warranty as well if they saw a unsealed airbox(hypathetically) if it was a engine malfuntion issue...for the money, the filters should just fit rite.....
Your filters must have been WAY too big then. My airbox lid isn't bowed at all and they have been in for months. I only had to apply minimal pressure, the weight of the ratchet actually pushed down enough for the screws to start. You did the right thing by putting in your stock filters, if the K&N were that far off.
I was currious if anyone has any witnessed any before and after dyno runs with a k&n or simmilar? I have heard in some cases an aftermarket filter can actualy cost you hp due to turbulance in the airbox. Anyone else heard this?
you could lose HP with an aftermarket filter however the biggest gains seen with a filter mod is when your actually at speeds of 120+mph where the filter can actually flow a good amount of air.. i dont trust anything the dyno tells me on a bike with an air scoop.
