Default engine paint?

I bought my bike with some small road rash on the alternator/stator cover (whatever it is called) it looks like the paint has just been scraped off smooth and no damage to the cover (deep gouges deep sckratches). I was just thinking about repainting it,

What paint works best?
Should it be primed?
should it be clear coated?
Flat or satin?

take it off, scuff up and paint with bbq paint and put it back on
or have it powdercoated

that small of a part wont be that expensive

or just get a CF cover for it
