Default Air Filters

Ok, I searched some old threads in hopes to avoid being roasted for bring up old topics. Some of the threads are pretty dated and would like to get any new input or experiences. Also, did a little reading at www.rogueracing.org.

I have new jardine RT 1 slip on exhaust and PCIII that I will be installing them this weekend. Also, purchased K&N filters but now I’m hesitant in installing the new filters based on some of the information I’ve been reading regarding the flow characteristics of these filters. I’ve read that the stock filters are better flowing than aftermarket. Is this true and am I better off with OEM filters?

Thanks for the help and input

I would say that aftermarket flows better in general. Unfortunately for you (I'd return them if possible), K&N are known in the 1000RR community to be the worst filter choice of the aftermarkets. Some reports actually show a loss of power versus stock. You also have to decide between street and race versions. Race will flow better and give better gains but with the trade off of letting more "dirt" into the engine and requiring more frequent cleaning. Unless you're racing or trying to eek out the last bit of power stay stock or go withBMC or Pipercross street version aftermarkets.

Thank you for the input. Believe I will return them and stay with stock OEM for now.

I had a distinctive difference in exhaust note when I put the BMC filter on my 08. I like it so far.
