Default Gas tank won't open

I can't open the cap on my tank. I have a 95 600F3 and when I put the key in, it won't budge. Yes it is the right key, and have had issues with the lock this year, but now it won't open at all. I can turn as hard as I want and nothing. I tried WD40 which I have found out now I shouldn't have used, and it still hasn't worked. The key is to the point that it is ready to break off. Has anyone had this issue before, and how do I get it open. I am on reserve right now.

Hmm, might try pushing down towards the front (where it latches) and then turn the key. Sometimes the little locking lip gets pretty dry and takes a little pressure to release the friction on it.. Good luck!

I have used wd40 w/o problems. Does the bike live outside? water usually causes things to corrode on the inside of the lock and make it stick. lube it up generously, push down on the cap, and turn and wiggle away. Its a pain in the butt, I know...

Yeah, my tank cap suffers the same way. I put a little oil on the key to keep the lock lubed & a small amount of vaseline petroleum jelly rubbed around the edge of the cap.
1st time it happened, pulled in to a servo & the bugger just would not budge, then it sort of popped a bit, still would not open. Thought I have to take to it with a screwdriver, but found if it happens, pushing down on the front of the cap as you turn the key usually works.

Default Busted spring

I had a locksmith come in and take a look. The spring on the lovk was busted so the latch would not retract. He drilled it open for me, and I removed it. Now I have to wait a week for an after market cap to come in. Ti top it all off, the weather is supposed to be nice for the rest of the week, while my bike is parked in the garage!!!!!
